8 Things to consider when buying baby gear

8 Things to consider when buying baby gear

  • Do I really need it?
  • There are so many options, available and marketed towards parents as “must haves” that it becomes so easy to fall into the trap of purchasing all this stuff that only gets used a couple of times and really wasn't needed at all, as kids grow so fast.

  • Is it going to last?
  • Quality is an important factor to consider when buying baby products. You want to make sure that the items you are buying will last a long time, and not end up broken in a landfill. Look for reviews that mention any problems or defects with the product.

  • Has the least environmental harm
  • Consider products with the least environmental impact, either made from recycled materials or that are recyclable.

  • Make informed decisions
  • Take the time to do your research, read product reviews and talk to other parents and consider what they have to say so that you can make an informed decision before you purchase.

  • Product Safety
  • Not all baby products are created equal, don't assume they're safe, just because they are made for children. Some products may contain - Toxic forever chemicals that don't break down for centuries. They can build up in our bodies and the environment, endangering us and our children. They are a common ingredient in clothing & mattress pads because they repel, stains & water. These chemicals have been linked to many serious health problems, including an increased risk of birth defects, hormone disruption, cancer, and thyroid disease.

  • Hidden Materials
  • Can produce dust particles which the baby is then exposed to, even though not touching them directly. Look out for PVC (found in rain covers, and foam handles) & polyurethane (found in foam padding) We recommend vacuuming and regular maintenance to minimise exposure.

  • Good Maintenance and Care
  • Cleaning is so important, strollers, car seats, and highchair fabrics get so many things spilled on them that they get incredibly dirty so buy products that have removable machine washable covers, that will give them a longer life span.

  • Use Non Toxic cleaning products
  • Unlike traditional cleaning products, natural, non-toxic cleaning products like CLEANZ do not leave harmful substances on surfaces, instead lifting and removing germs.
